Barrington: The Barrington area consists of five villages spread over Lake and Cook counties in the northeastern part of the state. Barrington, Barrington Hills and South Barrington are located in Cook County, while North Barrington and Lake Barrington are in the southernmost portion of Lake County. Prior to being settled by farmers in the 1830s, the Barrington area was home to the Pottawatomi and Mascouten tribes. The Barrington communities are conveniently located where the Golden Corridor of I-90 meets the corridor of the Fox River Valley, 35 miles northwest of Chicago. The region is home to many community organizations including senior groups, youth sports leagues, garden clubs, scouts and 4-H, health clubs and religious groups. Wetlands, horse trails, parks and forest preserves can all be found within or near Barrington. Some local parks provide year-round activity programs for children of all ages. More than 8,500 students attend the Barrington Community Unit School District 220, which serves Barrington and surrounding communities with 12 schools. Real estate is diverse.
